  I am with Ben. If you have to sit around waiting for days for the weather to cooperate, why not do it in style at Chena Hot Springs? The snow-cat tour is just one of several activities the resort offers. Keep checking the aurora forecast (though the experts are sometimes caught off-guard, as well). Less expensive to enjoy Fairbanks as a home base and scoot out to Chena to bathe before/after the auroral displays, but I rather like the idea of a low-key vacation and the chance to soak frequently in that hot water.
