  The cabins on lookout are bare bones but can be a nice reprieve from the never-ending wind. Check wind forecasts and plan accordingly. You'll probably have better luck at the south core banks, great island cabins, than up in the north core (Portsmouth Island), which could still be closed from the last hurricane. Check [recreation.gov](https://www.recreation.gov/camping/campgrounds/233332). Call ahead for ferry service ([Davis Ferry](http://davisferry.com)) as well! The cabins could be rented for the weekend but if not grab one and go! Take a salt water fishing rod with you as well,fish are usually swimming by this time of year! Enjoy!
