  I split a large back tooth right down the middle to the root eating almonds! My dentist said that I'm the fifth person he's seen this year who broke a tooth eating almonds. Oral surgeon tomorrow and then an implant. Any recommendations for dental implant specialists? Total cost is estimated at $5,000, so need to comparison shop.

  Gail. I am currently in the midst of having an implant done. Dr. Salvatore Pizzino in Southport (255–5142). He has been my dentist for about seven years, and I believe he is really good at his craft. If there is such a thing as a dental geek, he is one of those. Very detail oriented. I trust him. I think the cost is around $4000 but I'm not certain because I'm paying in two parts. His office uses Care Credit. If you keep up with regular payments, there is no interest. It has worked very well for me.
