  I am moving to Daytona this next year..trying to get things in order. My daughter and her family are moving as well to the area. Her son is 6 and has severe autism, we want whats right for him. Can anyone tell me if there are any good public schools for autistic children there or the Ormond Beach area? We need a public school, can't afford private.   No public school specialized in Autism trained teachers. Louise Lee Smith they have a program at Easter Seals and you can call Monarch Academy which is on Williamson Blvd in Daytona Beach. Also look into UCF CARD-university of Central Florida Center for Autistic Related Disorders. They will asaign you a case worker to help you. Her name is Lisa Roberts. Speech Works is good for assisting with speech therapy which is located in Ormond Beach Florida. As far as the public schools none of them have teachers solely trained to handle Autistic children. Monarch Academy is. Look into the Step up Scholarship because registration has started or will start first part of the year. Monarch takes it and they take the McKay Scholarship which is tied into the school board therefore your son will continue to receive his IEP. How do I know all this you may ask? My granddaughter is Autistic and she's in public school because Monarch doesn't start until 1st grade.
