  I know this is highly unlikely (maybe even impossible) but I'm trying to help a friend find child care for their autistic child who is 3 years old. This is a single parent who works in a restaurant so the hours stink- and it's mainly the weekends when the sitter is needed. The child desperately needs to be in the care of someone who is familiar with & knows how to deal with autism. Obviously, it also needs to be affordable as well. Anyone have any suggestions? Please no rude or nasty comments. This family needs a real solution as soon as possible. Thank you in advance for any helpful info!

  Has she contacted AutismTN.org or the Autism Foundation? They might can offer some help. When I lived in NC, I worked with a child with Autism and was paid by the state. I basically gave the parents a break and helped out a few hours a week. This was free to the parents, so Tennessee might have similar programs. I received basic training from the organization on dealing with some of the challenges of Autism.
