Lovely plant eaters, does anyone have a vegan cookbook they would recommend? I find myself making the same stuff a lot and would love to branch out! Preferably dishes that aren't too crazy and have ingredients I would not have to go all over town to find. Thanks in advance!

Cuyahoga county public library has tons of vegan cookbooks, so you can try out a few and find your favorite. Also check theppk.com for lots of recipes from Isa.
Which cookbook would you guys recommend for cooking Vegan on a budget? Good and Cheap Or Eat Vegan $4 a Day?
Amanda G. replied:
Sorry I can't help here, but a great online resource is Isa's post-punk kitchen online (she also has several great cookbooks). Not aimed specifically at budget friendly, but most are..especially if you cook with seasonal vegetables (so happy brussel sprouts are back in season). http://www.theppk.com
I make my own, though I have bought from the health shop in Balfour Park. I believe you can also get from the Taiwanese market in Cyrildene. I buy gluten from faithful to nature online shop. I mix gluten with veggie stock and flavourings then roast in liquid broth for an hour. Slice and fry. Find easy recipes here. www.theppk.com
Hi Everyone! When someone asks you for a good place to find vegan recipes, where are your favorite places to point them? I have tons of favorite cookbooks, but I tend to just search for single recipes and don't have a favorite 'place' to look.

Post punk kitchen is usually my go to..theppk.com. Vegan dad and oh she glows are also great!
Does anyone have a good, relatively simple, chickpea tuna salad recipe?
Tracy W. replied:
I like the one from www.theppk.com: 1 1/2 cups cooked chickpeas (a 15 oz can rinsed and drained) 1/4 cup vegan mayo, homemade or storebought 1 medium carrot, peeled and very finely chopped (almost minced) 1 stalk celery, finely chopped 2 tablespoons onion flakes Salt and pepper to taste In a mixing bowl, use an avocado masher or a strong fork to mash the chickpeas well. They should retain some of their texture and not appear pureed. A few whole ones left are ok. Mix in the mayo and give a few more mashes. Mix in the carrot, celery and onion flakes. Add salt and pepper to taste.
I am cutting dairy out of my diet, since my baby is gassy. Looking for non dairy, but also not fleishig meals. I don't live in an area where I can get meat, chicken, or many fishes.

My uncle has recently had to reluctantly go vegan for his health. He lives in North Carolina, and needs reasonably easy main course recipes that aren't basically fried unseasoned tempeh. Anyone have good suggestions?

This is a great vegan blog! In particular, I love their recipe for Thai red lentil chili. http://www.theppk.com/
Matt B. replied:
Isa Chandra Moskowitz, who runs the PPK blog, also has three earlier books called Appetite for Reduction, Vegan with a Vengenance and Veganomicon, all of which I can recommend. Other good authors include Chloe Coscarelli (easy comfort food), Terry Hope Romero (her book Vegan Eat World has a lot of simplified versions of traditional foods, made vegan without weird substitutions and strange ingredients) and Bryant Terry (southern/ african ).
I am looking for an amazing chili recipe for a camp out cook off this weekend. I am hoping to keep it a secret that it is Veg and surprise everyone at the end. Any recommendations?
My hippie American friends: can anyone recommend a good book for going vegan? what kinds of supplements you need to eat, tips and tricks for a balanced and fun diet, etc?

OK, FB braintrust. Thinking of going vegetarian again (NOT vegan, cuz cheese is just too dang good!). Anyone got any good websites they recommend for recipes?
Kathy-Aminah J. replied:
It's vegan, but you can add cheese to things. I probably cook 90% of my meals from the website and her books. http://www.theppk.com/
Where is Veg/vegan bakery that makes birthday cakes?

I haven't been overly impressed with any of Earth Fare's vegan dessert selections yet...if you feel like making your own, theppk.com has an amazing chocolate cake recipe that I've used numerous times!
