Does anyone have any suggestions for training plans to gain speed? I am slow, and I am OK with that for the most part, BUT would like to become a little faster. I am doing some 50K races this year, and need to make sure I can make the cutoff times.

Peak Performance has a good-form running program that will start in the near future. Get on Peak's Facebook page to get the latest update on that and future races.

I used hal Higdons as well. I just completed my 5 th half... My advice is to go to a place like peak performance and have them evaluate your run on their machine... They can tell you what the best shoe is for you! Also, pace yourself.... Slow and steady wins the race. I made the mistake of pushing it too fast in the beginning and made it that much harder to keep it up later on in the race

Getting the right shoes is SO important! When I first started training my first half, I had not yet invested in really good running shoes. Once I got past 4 miles, my knees were hurting a lot. I went to peak performance and bought proper shoes and no more knee pain. Also, don't put too much pressure on yourself and just have during the training and ultimately the race. Long races are hard but also amazing! Congrats on starting this new adventure!!!
Have a heel injury. Not sure what is specifically happening but my heel is sore and swollen and has been for 10 days. I haven't run on it in that time period but I have iced and stretched. Should I go see a sports-type doctor at this point? Any recommendations? TIA!
