Taylor S. asked:Looking for a recommendation for an affordable dentist. My husband has to have a tooth pulled (first time) and the dentist (that he had a $400 consultation with) said it would cost over $600 to pull the one tooth in the back of his mouth. (There is nothing impacted or out of the ordinary, just can't afford a $3K+ recommended root canal) Or does the quote sound normal and we are just going to have to deal.. neither one of us has had a tooth pulled.

It can be local or north Jax.Robert F. replied:I recommend Dr. Patricia Dunn or Pediatric Smiles for children who need a significant amount of dental treatment. Both of these practices have dentist who have had extensive training in the treatment of children. I feel a child, who needs extensive tre atment, should be sedated and potentially have all of their treatment performed in one setting. I believe multiple visits may give the child a bad perception of dentistry. Both of these pediatric dentist use an anesthesiologist to sedate the patient for treatment so that the anesthesiologist concentrates on the child's sedation and the dentist concentrates on treating the child as quickly and efficiently as possible. I personally treat children who need less extensive treatment or who seem to be able to tolerate multiple visits. Usually parents know what there own children can tolerate. We allow one parent in the room during dental treatment if the parent wishes to be present during dental treatment. My pediatric training involved spending time in a General Practice Residency program for 2 years. During the two years of training we spent 4 months with the pediatric dental residents performing additional training with pediatric patients. The training included care treating patients in a hospital operating room, extensive treatment with sedation and the treatment of severe handicapped children in an institutional facility. Although, I have had this additional training, I refer the more complex cases to pediatric specialist. Pediatric specialist have the facilities and ability to treat more complex cases for the benefit of the patient. Office # 904-261-6826. We also perform all aspects of dental surgery with oral sedation for much less than an Oral Surgeon. I am well skilled in the extraction do wisdom teeth.
