  I have been to Outer Banks and I liked actually Roanoke Island best and we stayed in a little B&B in Wanchese as we wanted a romantic getaway for our honeymoon and it was perfect. We were close enough to everything but still felt isolated. http://roanokeisland.net/ The best food we found was a little unknown restaurant in Manteo that the locals ate at which was definitely not fancy, but had the best fresh food anywhere we found during our week there. I think the name started with initials like "T" but I just cannot remember now. Good luck on your hunting and hope you enjoy your stay.

  Ditto to all the above! Be sure to check the 2015 NC Ferry Schedule to travel from island to island! Very cheap, fun, and relaxing with great views. Do not miss taking the ferry! Spend a day taking a slow sightseeing ride up the coastline past Duck using the ferries to go from island to island, but check the ferry schedule. I lived in Fayetteville, NC in the 90 s and went every chance I got. Ocracoke Island, Roanoke Island, Nags Head, Kill Devil Hills, two lighthouses, Kitty Hawk, Jockey's Ridge are all beautiful and not wall-to-wall high rise hotels/condos blocking the views! Only problem I had was getting sweet tea at some of the restaurants.
