Also visit the thegypsynurse.com that will answer more of your impending questions.Jacque J. replied:I would recommend AYA healthcare. They're very user friendly if you're new to the game. We also worked with TNAA, and the staff was great for our transition, but we found later that their rates can be very low- not always, but much of the time. You're already doing better than us, because you found this forum and the gypsy nurse before you started travelling, we sort of jumped head first and learned along the way. Travel tax is a great resource to help with tax things like permanent address and such. If you're good with taxes or have someone you trust, it may be more worth it to pay for most things on your own and not get reimbursed (licenses, scrubs, etc) and claim it on your taxes as business expenses to get you more money in the long run. Nothing is "free," so take any extras you're offered with a grain of salt and make sure it makes sense for you. If you already travel often, and are good at finding cheap places to stay, do that, you'll make most of your money that way. On the other hand, for safety reasons, sometimes its a good idea to let your agency do it for you, especially if youre in a city like Baltimore or Chicago. Know buzz words like "non-compete clause," and "guaranteed pay," and make sure what they're offering makes sense. If anything is super important to you, i.e. shifts, block scheduling, time off, floating, etc, get it in writing or it doesn't matter. Know that you have the right to protect your license, even if it means cancelling a contract. Also know that flexibility is KEY-- you will not have the easy assignments, you may take the heavier ones, the annoying ones, or the ones you aren't 100% suited for. Stand up for yourself, but also pick your battles. And get out and find some adventure, even if you hate the assignment; if you don't you will lose your mind. These are just some of the things my husband and I have learned. He is a nurse too so I can't speak to barriers with travelling with a significant other. And we're still figuring out where to go from here, lol. I hope this helps!

Where do I start. Who's the best company? To start with I want to stay closer to East Tennessee where I'm from, just because I'm leaving my kids for the first time even though they are adults. I've seen openings in Wilmington NC, Myrtle Beach Sc. Obviously I would like to be near the beach. I've also seen openings in different areas of Florida. I know this is long but I need help from experienced travelers. Also my husband is laid off at the time and should I take him along or leave him home and just have him come visit on occasion? I just don't know what to do, help please! !! Agency and recruiters are totally an individual thing and you can get 100 opinions but need to interview agencies and recruiters and find ones that fit for you and your needs. My recruiter with Medical Solutions is awesome and he's really had my back with several issues during this contract, but I'm feeling really under pressure and Medical Solutions doesn't have a ton of contracts in the Northeast right now. Has anybody had experience switching companies after a bad contract? How does that affect going to the new agency, especially if prior contracts had nothing but good things to say? Editing to add: I've had nothing but good experiences with Medical Solutions, but I'm concerned about not finding my next contract soon enough. That's why I wanted to explore other agencies. My question is more about approaching a new agency right after a bad contract.
