About us
Karens in the Dog House consists of Karen Tonge and Liz Shipley, Karen is a qualified and insured Instructor with the Association of Pet Dog Trainers. Liz is a student member. They are both passionate about working with modern, kind but effective methods. Karen comes from a background in childcare and development combining her passion of promoting good relations between children and dogs. We do not use harsh methods of any kind, for dogs or children! Or support the inaccurate notion that owners need to ‘dominate’ their dogs to make them comply. These methods can cause serious problems, put owners at risk especially children and greatly damage the human-dog bond.
Liz is a busy Mum that balances the challenges of a family and running a dog walking facility.
We teach puppy and adult dog obedience classes and APDT Good Companion awards (Puppy, Foundation and Advanced). We provide free Child Dog Bite Prevention presentations (Doggonsafe) to local Schools and Child based groups and advise Childrens centres and ante-natal groups on how to introduce a new baby to a family dog. Together with over 25 years experience of owning and caring for our dogs, together with running a busy and successful dog home boarding service licensed by Dacorum Council and daycare you will be in good hands.
