The barn Taylor horse stables (Formerly Allen Horse Play) recently came under new Ownership and management. Things have really gone downhill from there. The new owners are not qualified nor capable of running a facility. The barn has been suffering from severe neglect and the new owners do not know how to prioritize what needs to be done. They have cut the feed for the horses down to under 15lbs a day resulting in my horse losing more than 300 lbs over the last few months. When I asked them to feed the agreed upon 20lbs a day, according to the lease agreement they gave me 2 reasons why they wouldn’t. First that the weight loss was normal for the fall, and that it seemed like the barn couldn't meet my needs. When I stressed the importance of getting the correct feed they told me that they were feeding the correct amount and asked me to find another place to board immediately because I was causing too much Angst.
Besides the food issue in the last year alone they have run out of stall shavings 3 times each time it took them well over a month to get new shavings into the barn. This meant that the shavings were not changed for WEEEKS allowing horses to wallow in their own filth. At the last barn meeting they informed us that shavings were too expensive to maintain the amount they were originally providing, and that they would be cutting the shaving allotment in HALF and that if we wanted more, we could have more at an extra charge.
So as of now they are feeding horses lees than their agreed upon amount of 20lbs to cut costs and they are shorting boarders on shavings that they were supposed to provide.
I own and operate a personal business where I teach riding lessons and have an assistant trainer who helps me on days I cannot teach, they have harassed her repeatedly and acted in a highly unprofessional manner towards her on multiple occasions. They have even got so far as to yell at her for over 45 minutes and caused her to cry. I was given permission to have her help me with lessons by the owner and then a week later because one of the managers threw a temper tantrum about it the owner called me and told me he changed his mind and that I could not have an assistant help me with lessons. It concerns me that they told me that I could not have an assistant trainer helping me out because another trainer at the barn also has an assistant trainer who works at the barn almost daily. When I asked about the inconsistency in their policy, I was told that this other trainer boards seven horses at the barn and I only have one, so she has more privileges than me.
When the barn management starts to not like a person, they play games and deliberately and maliciously neglect the horse of the person they don’t like. They drive people they don't like away while still trying to maintain that they are a decent facility and able to board full care. When pointing out the unfair treatment they use gas lighting techniques and try to blame you for the issues that are happening or tell you to find another place to board. Management and ownership are very hypocritical and underhanded in their dealings with their boarders saying one thing and then doing something completely different.
They do not call you if your horse is injured or inform you in any way. There have been several times that my horse has had obvious injuries that I discovered days after they happened. When asked why they did not inform me of the injuries I was told by the barn manager that it is not his job. Several of the injuries to my horse were because of broken and sharp fencing panels in the pens. Only after a month of requesting they fix the panel, my horse being injured and me refusing to make a board payment was the panel replaced.
There are MANY Physical safety risks around the barn. I was trying to let the new owner know about some of the most hazardous ones and he asked me to fill out a safety report with the information. I did so and passed it out to the boarders so they could help me with any other concerns they may have. I believe everyone has a right to know at any facility or workplace of any potential dangers. When I presented the report, they told me that many of my concerns were never going to be fixed or that they didn’t need to be fixed, because they simply don’t have the money to fix them. Below are some of my noted concerns.
There are major leaks in all areas of the barns roof, one directly in an entrance to the indoor arena which ices over in the winter and causes major slipping issues. My horse fell several times last winter in that spot. The leaks also directly impact several of the indoor stalls causing the shavings to become a sloppy mess leaving horses standing in a wet mix of their own feces and urine. Much of the fencing on property is damaged and in disrepair. Their vet stall is in disrepair and dirty, several major injuries could not even be tended to in the stall because of its condition. The electrical is very unsafe, several outlets are exposed to the weather and water from sprinklers. One outlet in the wash bay is directly next to the water spigots. Some outlets do not even have basic safety covers and the wires and connections are open and exposed to touch. Half of the indoor arena lights don't work. The outdoor and indoor lighting for the barn is abysmal. The barn and arena doors do not open or close properly. Several of the Large electric roll up doors do not work and have not worked for years. The main bay door to the indoor arena poses a crushing hazard as it just falls down unrestrained if the latch is released. One of the entry doors in the arena was actually tied shut using an extension cord that was plugged in. They have not had the manure pile removed in over 9 months. They do not keep the stalls and breezeways clean of dust, cobwebs, or wasp nests.
Most if not all of the fire extinguishers are expired and none of them have tags indicating in use/expiration dates. There is no medical emergency kit on site. When asked if they could restock or supply us with one, I was informed that it was not their responsibility to look after my health by the barn Manager. I even offered to help them stock one they refused. When I raised most of my concerns with the barn, they accused me of trying to cause drama or just outright ignored me. I have attached images of my full report to this review. As well as pictures.
Over the last three months there have been several serious horse injuries that could have been avoided if the facility was properly maintained.
While I understand that it is difficult to run a property such as this for the first time, they have done much to push me and other patrons away, while we were trying to offer support. I offered on several occasions to come do Maintenance and other various tasks FOR FREE. This offer of support was only met with disdain, and what I now believe to be neglect to my horse in the form of purposeful underfeeding due to my raised concerns.
Overall, the lack of professionalism and disregard for the health of the animals under their care is unacceptable to me as a horse owner and trainer.
When I left the facilities today, they had several people watching me and recording me on cameras following me as I was trying to pack up and leave. They harassed my assistant trainer when she came to help me with my saddles and threatened to call the cop on us. The behavior that continued to happen up until the moment I left was hostile and angry towards me.
Without serious changes to staff attitudes and barn priorities as well as immediate maintenance, I cannot in good conscience recommend anyone place their animals in Taylor Horse stables Care. I strongly recommend you look elsewhere for horse boarding. It is very likely your horse will suffer because of budget cuts, spiteful vindictive behaviors from management or an avoidable accident due to disrepair of the facility.
I'm in weber county and looking for some indoor ridding arenas golden spike times are hard to follow and cancelled most weekends I can't find where legacy center has open ridding, is there any other facilities that have an arena to ride in.

unless they have recently changed their policies. I used to haul in there quite often. Call Wendy at 805-432-2950 or Rondy at 801-391-3880. It used to be like $40 per day but it didn't matter how many horses you hauled in with you. I used to take 2 over.
ISO: Boarding for one horse in northern Weber county area. I live in Pleasant View and currently board in West Haven. Looking for somewhere closer to home. Please message me if you have somewhere or know somewhere that can accommodate one horse. Thank You!
