I hired Ms. Hillier for a last minute mini session for summer family photos. She was very accommodating and was willing to travel to our home to take photos charging mileage, which was much appreciated with young children. I have seen her work on Facebook shared by friends and local people and I liked what I saw and her pricing was very affordable and there were some photos in her portfolio and social media channels that weren't 'my style' and that I thought could be of better quality, but I figured since it wasn't for a special occasion, she would suit our needs just fine.
The session went well, she was wonderful with our kids, and it went fast. She sent 3 teaser photos the same day, which was much appreciated. She even went out of her way to share extra photos for me of my husband and I for our anniversary.
The photos arrived 2 weeks after she took them, which is what is in her welcome package that she emails clients, and I was pleased with the timeliness of their arrival. However, I was very disappointed in the quality of the images that she captured. The images that she attempted to capture were beautiful, but almost all of the images are grainy/noisy and out of focus.I like, and expect, sharp, crisp and clear images. If Ms. Hillier was uncomfortable shooting at the location because of the lighting (or any other factor), I wish she would have said right then and there, I would think it would have been apparent the poor quality of images she was capturing.
Her black and white conversions are more of a grey and cream colour, which is not to my liking or taste at all and the colour photos were dull and grainy.
I did email Ms. Hillier with my concerns and disappointment in the quality of our images and she never responded to me, which is my motivation for writing an official review in the only forum that I could find to write one as she doesn't allow reviews on her business Facebook Page. I wouldn't wish for a re-shoot, for obvious reasons, but a response back to my concerns as an unhappy client is the professional and ethical thing to do; a refund or partial refund would have been a very welcomed offer.
My advice is to pay the extra money for a true professional who can consistently deliver high quality images and services. If there is anything in a photographer's portfolio you don't like, keep moving on and pick someone else.
