Cities you recommend, restaurants you remember being delicious, if you stayed in any hostels that were exceptionally good... And/or any of the previously listed things I should AVOID! lol Any and all help/advice/tips/recommendations would be greatly appreciated.   Agreed on Taormina. (and Mt. Etna is right nearby. While you're on that coast, check out Catania (a very baroque city), and Siracusa--there's a lot of history there. It was originally part of the Greek empire of old. The northern part has the archaeological parks (the Roman and Greek Ampitheatres, the "ear of Dionysius" and the catacombs, which go back to biblical times. I believe St. Paul preached there...it's mentioned in Acts). And the southern part of the city is really historic too. It's called Ortegia (sp). Def bring a camera. Also on Sicily is Agrigento, famous for the "Valley of the temples." There are probably more Greek ruins in Sicily than there are in Greece! And of course, there's Palermo. Monte Pellegrino and the Sanctuary of St. Rosalie. The Cathedral, the Cappucini Catacombs, which are not catacombs in the traditional sense, but part of a cemetery, where bodies were preserved and hung up so relatives could visit. The Cathedral at Monreale, famous for its mosaics, also the cloisters up there as well. And the Norman Palace and the Cappella Palatina (Palatine Chapel) are not to be missed. Also in Palermo is Teatro Massimo, an active Opera house and I believe the 2 nd largest in Europe. I saw Tosca there! (I also believe that part of Godfather 3 was filmed there). During the day, they give tours. I don't know much about hostels in Palermo, but the place I stayed the last three times was Le Kensie apartments http://www.lekenzie.com/english.htm. The price was fairly reasonable and it's located right near the train station, local busses (right in front of the train station), and "pullman" bus stops (a block away) which go to other parts of Sicily. If you can, get Room 4. That one's fairly large and has a nice view of the square (and windows on two sides!)
