  I had the hard drive on my Mac crash last year and took it to Laptop Fix near Walgreens off of Houston Rd. (http://www.laptopfixstores.com/?page_id=165). They put in a new hard drive and were able to recover all of my data at a decent cost. I also had an old external hard drive crash a few months later (rough couple of months!) and took it there. They weren't able to recover that data but didn't charge me to look at it and even recommend a place to send it to for data recovery.
