Sweet talker – be aware! This guy Juan Carlos will tell you everything you want to hear to get the contract. He will assure you everything will be just perfect when he is done, you will be happy and any possible issue will be resolved to your complete satisfaction. Well, that is just a load of crap! We had him do our bathroom. Initially he provided a written estimate of $21K and 7 weeks. The whole thing ended up being over $28K and took over 4 months! and today, 9 months after the remodeling started, we are still trying to get him to come back and fix issues and we just about just gave up and accept the fact that we will have to hire somebody else to fix what needs to be fixed. He did send somebody a couple of times to “attempt” to fix the things, but when you send somebody that does some work but does not really correct or fixed them, then you are not really getting the issues addressed. What I learned from dealing with this guy: He will offer a year warranty and promise he will come back and fix any issues that may come up. The reality is that once he was paid all of the money, we had to beg and beg to get him to come back and things did not get fixed. If I had known, I would have never paid the last of the money until I was sure I would not need anything else done. One of the issues that needs to be fixed is some damage in the ceiling made by one of his employees. They patched the hole they made in the ceiling, but applied paint that does not match and it looks horrible and this is the largest area ceiling in the house! They do decent job on drywall and tile and are OK on plumbing (as far as I can tell), but they are pretty bad on granite counter tops and have no idea what they are doing as far as glass-only shower enclosures. On the granite counter tops, they did not measure correctly so we ended up with gaps of up to an inch on some sides and they just put some filler and blamed the issue on the wall not being good and having a slight angle. The shower glass doors are not level and the quality of works looks like a teenager installed it during the weekend…pretty bad! So what is my final thoughts? I am sorry I listened to this guy and believed all the B.S. he talks. He was slightly cheaper than other guys, but I ended up paying much more at the end. I will never, ever use this guy again, I will never recommend this guy to anybody else for any house work.
Anyone have an affordable handyman, and maybe also house painter?
I guess we are all getting ready to start some spring projects!

I am having some work done by Carlos Gonzalez at Cowboy Remodeling. He and his team refloated our hallway - installed new sheet rock, and taped and bedded, and is finishing up a pretty sophisticated tile job in our guest bath as I write this. He was very reasonable, is very hard working and most importantly pays attention to the details. You can call him at 214-234-5680
