Has anyone gone to Solar Power?? We have to replace 2 hot water cylinders in 2 storey house. Electrician has recommended we get a heat pump and then solar power as well. Any positives or negative comments welcome :)

We have a solar powered hot water cylinder on our roof [next to its panels]. In summer our electricity bill is $80.00 a month as we turn the electricity off to the cylinder and still service a family of 4 , in winter it’s about $250.00, but you can ge t new technology panels now that can get more benefit off the sun in winter than ours do – we are looking into this. Also check out http://www.eeca.govt.nz/ as it might be possible to get a subsidy on a new install.
