  We are heading south for the first time along the Atlantic coast. I am seeking advise regarding passage making along Florida. How close in will we need to stay to avoid the Gulf Stream? How bad will the traffic be? Leaving from Brunswick, heading to Riviera Beach in a 40' sailboat where should we plan to put in along the way to rest, refuel etc? We have been advised to use Cracker Boy yard if we require a haul out for some repairs - comments. Thanks......

  Active captain is a good resource on the computer. Get local knowledge about passes from tow boat companies. Just take your time and let the weather dictate. Come to the Seven Seas Cruising Association Melbourne Florida Gam in Nov. There is a fun seminar every year on "Going South" in addition to meeting all kinds of cruisers. Check out www.ssca.org

  According to SSCA.org the Melbourne GAM is November 13-15. Also check out the St. Petersburg GAM which is being held September 19 th at (one day event) at St. Petersburg Yacht Club.
