Security Monitoring service Hi redditors, I have moved to my first ever home in Canada Ontario. Prior to this I was living in a condo. I have zero knowledge of how home security monitoring service works. I was googling and got bunch of service provided by Rogers, Bell, ADT, Ring etc, and I found the information too overwhelming. Can anyone suggest which security service should I use, how much cost should I expect. I was planning for: 3 Cameras: One in Front, side and back each 5 Windows and door sensors: for probable entry 1 Motion Sensor 1 Fire Alarm 1 Smoke Alarm 1 Water Leakage 1 Smart Thermostat 1 Smart Door Lock Rogers and Telus both are providing me this service for same price except, Telus is signing for 5 years and Rogers for 2 years. Can you guys recommend me a good service. I live in Kitchener.

Rogers cameras currently do not record on more than 1 device at a time, so you will NOT get true 24/7 recording on all 3 cameras with them, unsure about other providers. I currently have a system with FrontPoint Security, pretty solid setup. They use [alarm.com](https://alarm.com) parts

For security system with home automation, including Sonos, take a look at the Qolsys IQ 2+ with Alarm.com on the backend. Alarm.com offers integration with a number of different companies that allow control from the security system and the Alarm.com app/website.

Vector is offering a $200 startup bonus to either go towards additional equipment or towards monthly payments which I could probably get ADT to match. That being said they're both a bit higher monthly cost than some other systems. Are there any other good companies that work with existing equipment that provide monitoring and are a little cheaper that anyone can recommend?

I wouldn't get fixated on getting your cameras and your security system from the same company, or even integrated together. Do you have any good local independent alarm installers? Most have a deal with someplace like alarm.com to handle the "24/7 professional monitoring"

Get one that uses the Alarm.com app. The rest of the apps are dog doo. The only ones that use Alarm.com, use quality hardware, are DIY'ish, and have reasonable monthly fees are Surety and Link Interactive. EDIT: I would also look at Ring even though it doesn't qualify w/ my above criteria.

Vera is used in a lot of vacation homes. You add cellular via USB. Look at Vera Secure as well as the standard vera hubs. Vera secure uses some of the same GoControl security devices as alarm.com. GoControl is a Nortek brand. Nortek is a minority owner of Vera Control. Both GoControl security and z-wave devices tend to be well supported in various vera products. Vera is still perhaps the best HA hub for limited remote systems, such as vacation homes and smaller businesses. I suggest a zwave plus lock, of which there are only a few choices.
