After teaching for over a decade as a Montessori toddler teacher and seeing the wonderful impact it had on the children as they matured into preteens, I knew I wanted the same advantage for my daughter. There was only one problem: the area Montessori schools did not offer any programs for children under 18 months. Those first 18 months are vital to the brain’s development and can be a missed opportunity if ignored. In that time an explosion of learning takes place as muscles become more controlled, the mind is enriched though the senses, and language is absorbed and projected. For this reason, I, with the support of my wonderful husband, have opened our home to help awaken the natural potential of the youngest pupils in a comforting and nurturing home atmosphere. It is my hope that parents will enjoy seeing the same results I have seen time and time again by allowing their child the opportunity to become engaged with the world around them. Every child wants to learn; it’s choosing the right environment that makes the difference.
