OMG...Nurturing Nest Montessori. http://www.nurturingnestmontessori.com Seriously...Montessori is an amazing (and successful) philosophy, but THEY ARE NOT ALL CREATED EQUAL. Both of my girls went into first grade confidently light years ahead of (most) other kids, both academically and behaviorally. Among other things, there is an organic garden the kids help tend, they believe that children absolutely need time outside in the fresh air each day, kids of all temperaments and abilities learn without shaming and punishment. Its amazing. I followed Miss Cathie to Nurturing Nest because she is SO talented and wise. Sabrina (the head of the school) is a Montessori parent that wanted to create the Montessori that she wished had existed for her children. I cannot say enough about this school. I am a parent that had real trouble leaving our girls at school (and until Nurturing Nest I only had them go to preschool from 9-12). Until this school opened. When I found out that Miss Cathie and Miss Shelby were to be the teachers there for kids from age 3 through Kindergarten (sending kids to Kindergarten in Montessori is really meaningful and important in my view), I called the school and asked where to send the check (sight unseen) and told her I didn't care where in the county they were located because I would follow Cathie to the ends of the Earth. I left behind our previous Preschool without looking back, even sadly sacrificing our nonrefundable (sizable) deposit because there was NO way I would miss out on our girls getting in on this school. The day they had the incoming kids go to meet the teachers and see the school, I watched the interaction between Cathie and Shelby and our girls and I couldn't hold back the tears. Finally a school that shared my values and respect for the intrinsic dignity of children. The school isn't just around the corner, but its worth every second of the drive. I felt lucky to be able to stay home with our girls, so I didn't need daycare, but if the school had existed before the girls were preschool age, I would have sent them part time at NN because the caring, positive training there is beyond my abilities. Physically, the school itself isn't hugely impressive, but it doesn't matter, because what happens there overcomes all.Oh man, this has gotten long. Sorry. I urge you to check them out.
