Due to a three and a half stone weight loss I am needing a new bodice/boned kirtle/sleeves for my talks and was wondering if anyone can put me in touch with a seamstress/costumier – preferably in Essex (or roundabouts) who can help. I may even need a complete overhaul! I am not after ‘gentry costume’ but neither do I want to be dressed as poor. ‘Middling’ (merchant class) is what I was after. A) The red bodice pictures are me in what I have put together myself from various sources over recent years and have worn until now - but it is beginning to fall off me… B) The other two pictures are the sort of thing I am now after (or thereabouts) … in appropriate fabrics – must be front lacing as my character is not quite rich enough to have a maid to lace me up the back… Please contact me on here or by private message if you or you know of someone willing to do some dress making on my behalf?

  whatever you do Karen Bowman please don't cross-lace your bodice or wear that fox-tail; they were popular on the circuit a few years ago, but no-one knew why and I've not seen one worn on a belt for some seasons ... there are lots of costume suppliers at www.livinghistory.co.uk or visit one of the many living history fairs, the nearest/biggest/best/soonest one to you will be https://www.facebook.com/.../Cambridge.../621712134553695
