  Good morning everyone! Want to thank you for adding me to the group am looking forward to reading your posts and learning more about my family who came from the Derry area of Ireland. I am hoping if anyone could possibly help me find information about my Great Great Grandparents John Watton(also seen as Watten) and his wife Jane Simpson who, I believe originally came from the Coleraine area. I know virtually nothing about them except they were both born in the 1820's. They had a daughter by the name of Matilda Watton who was born in 1856 in the district of Ballyrashane and who married John Shields from Ballynagg. They were married in the Presbyterian church in Ballyrashane and I sent them a letter hoping they might have some records of Jane and John but never heard back. I am sure Matilda had brothers and sisters and would love to know about them. Please if anyone can help me or advise me as to where I can look I would be very grateful.

  Well no one spoke so here goes. There is really only one WATTON to speak to in this region. The one who has his land records dating into the 1600's on the WATTON farm held by his family. I do have to warn you- he may not stop talking family for a month!! LOL Bryan and Annie Watton operate the Kilmail Country Chalet http://www.kilmailcountrychalet.com on the B62 road that runs from Ballymoney to Bushmills. This country is a main region for the original (1600) families of Scottish who settled in Northern Ireland. Bryan has spent his life collecting family and region documents and stories that rival Bill McAfee's local knowledge. I expect you will have more then enough to find your family, AND a related family to visit on any trip to Ireland.
