  Thinking about checking out the Gulf Coast for Valentine's. Any suggestions (hotels/beaches)? Going to try and check out the Gulf Coast this weekend. Haven't really every been out there, especially not in to the beaches (which I am told are superior).   [Anna Maria Island](http://annamariaisland.com) may be my favorite place on the planet. It's beautiful and has wonderful stores, restaurants and beachy establishments. Close enough to bigger cities for larger entertainment too! They've got less hotel options, but a lot of homes are rentable, and there are a few bed and breakfasts. Have fun!

Could someone post some pic's for me. Would love to take my husband for his 60th birthday in September. Also would love to stay downtown any suggestions?
