ATTENTION ALL GEARHEADS AND FRIENDS OF GEARHEADS:
I need help with a car problem.
My 15-year-old Toyota Camry has been making noise when I first drive away, but not so much as I drive along. I took it to a mechanic with whom I've long done business, and he said its not the muffler or tailpipe but rather a pipe toward the front of the car near the catalytic converter.
He said I should take it to a muffler shop, and maybe they'll do a relatively inexpensive weld job to fix the situation. He cautioned, however, that they might well try to sell me a far more expensive fix involving replacement of the equipment at issue.
Does anyone know somebody who can handle a situation like this without screwing me?
Thanks.
