Hi Everyone, I'm going to New York with my boyfriend on Friday, has anyone got any recommendations for places to eat? I'm staying on Times Square
Laura B. replied:
Ristorietta and Blooms are fab for GF. We had breakfast at Blooms most days (pancakes and french toast) and lunch once too (a BLT). I had wonderful risotto at Ristorietta and they had a really good selection of GF beers (Bards was my favourite, which I was lucky to find in some other places. We ate at Bareburger, which offered GF buns and bread and the fries were not contaminated. Mozzarellis was fantastic (I tried three different flavours of pizza - New York style, by the slice). Lilli and Loos new Central Park have a GF menu and I had some delicious rice noodles and GF beer yet again! A place not on my map was Chipotle which is a Mexican fast food place and aside from the burritos (and other dishes served with flour wraps) all is GF! Very tasty and cheap and there are Chipotle's everywhere! If you love rice pudding, try Rice to Riches, which is like an ice cream parlour but for rice pudding. If I could have gone everyday I would have. This was great after being disappointed by Coldstones Ice Cream not offering anything GF. Pips Bakery was amazing (very close to Blooms, so I popped by a few times after breakfast). They have biscuits like homemade jammy dodgers which are fabulous. S'Mac was also a place I could have eaten at more! Pure American stodge and lots of flavours of macaroni cheese to choose from and GF beers! In terms of bars we found serving GF beers, the best were The Half Pint, District Tap Room (near TS) and Tavern on Jane. They may be more, but these are the main ones we found. As I mentioned, GF beers are common on the menus in the restaurants I visited and Bards and Omission were the best I tried! However if you go to this bar http://thewinslownyc.com/# DO NOT order the GF beer. It was hideous. Can't win them all!
