We had the tile redone 15+ years ago at a previous home and it lasted. We had our current bathroom done a 5+ years ago. They can refinish the tile whatever color you wish and it even covers over the old grout so it becomes much easier to clean. You can't use abrasives on the tile but we haven't needed to use abrasive cleaners. www.miraclemethod.com Cheaper than pulling out all the old tile which is usually maticulously done in the 1950's.

We had lots of small chips as the tub had been refinished before, but not while we've been in the house. We were also replacing a faucet, so yes, we called a plumber to remove everything and then again about a day or two after the job was complete, we called the plumber back in to install the new hardware. It took two days, but the young man doing the work was very professional, efficient and clean. The tub looks brand new. It cost $465 - more than buying a tub, but we loved the convenience of not having to buy a tub, remove the old one - which can break tiles in the surround, and lifting tubs up and down stairs.
