  my suggestion is to get the aluminum; not the gauze. The gauze will fall apart, tear, decompose over time. The aluminum will probably oxidize but shouldn't fall apart. Still, great idea that this solution exists and should be a great home project! However, for at least the past 20 years here in the US they've been favoring a nylon-like alternative to aluminum (see http://www.phifer.com/). It doesn't oxidize but over time it pulls apart from its border frame. Since this'll be frameless my guess is it may stress-tear away from its self-stick velcro. But then you can just replace the velcro & start over?
