  Good morning! I am somewhat new to the page and I have an issue with my dog. He is a rescue - turns 3 yrs old this month and I got him this past Easter. We have been to 2 basic training type classes. My issue is him on walks. I have tried many different harnesses/collars etc but only found that the prong collar is the only one he stops pulling on (of course I only have it on when we are walking the neighborhood). Anyway, this morning he slipped the prong collar and took off after squirrels (he is very high prey). Okay fine, but then he won't listen to come back to me. I live off of a busy street and he ran straight towards it at full speed and turned at the last minute. He was 'free' for about 10 minutes before I got him pinned in a back yard and then only got him when he stopped for his morning potty break. Can you recommend any techniques/classes/places to run him that are fenced in? It has gotten to the point that I don't want to walk him anymore in fear that one day he will run out in front of a car. Any help is appreciated. thanks.

  Welcome to the page. Im assuming that you need to remove some of the prong collar links if he can slip out of it. For the situations where he is able to escape and put himself in danger.... with enough training work, most dogs can achieve a level of discipline where you can stop them in their tracks with verbal commands. If you have a hard-headed dog, I know that training with a shock collar works well too. It just take the effort. I have worked a lot with my dog but honestly she is still a mess who requires a prong collar for walks and I just never allow a situation where she can escape. (knock on wood)
