Does anyone have any suggestions or references on where I can find period patterns for embroidery that can be used for clothing embellishments / seams?

I like: Walton, P. 1985. “Needlework from Jorvik.” Embroidery 36: 130-131. (very brief overview about things like seam decoration) Pritchard, F. 1984. "Late Saxon Textiles from the City of London." Medieval Archaeology 28; 46-76. http://archaeologydataservice.ac.uk/catalogue/adsdata/arch-769-1/dissemination/pdf/vol28/28_046_076.pdf S8A-H from the Hedeby settlement was red wool, identified as a mantle, that originally had been hemmed with a vegetable fibre thread, which may have provided contrast. I'm not sure that for a lot of these examples that the contrasting thread would be considered to be embroidery by us. It often seems to be the usual sort of stitches used on hems and seams, just in a different colour.
