Hi guys need a little help.Weve recently viewed an old 1979 traditional narrowboat 48ft ... She's been very neglected and is in a complete mess inside .Her hull and body all seem in good order paintwork not to bad engine good and she was blacked a year n half ago but she would need totally gutting through out and starting again inside ,so total refit.. But we can't stop thinking about her and was wondering if we just wanted to get her tidied up and just a basic simple refit inside ,how much roughly would it cost us to restore her inside. The poor girl needs love and attention .Just needed a rough estimate if anyone knows .thanku :)

So - we've broken down on the Thames at Caversham. Engine failed in middle of river and refuses to start. Luckily got towed to side. Any good Beta engineers you could suggest? TIA

Anyone know the cheapest place I can take a 70ft. 60 ton boat out? So I can start saving my pocket money,,,, I cleaned the propeller the other day and noticed the anodes haven't got much life left,,,
Dom D. replied:
She is 22 m x 4.5 m and the draft is 85 cm,,,, according to the equation on this link it's actually 71 tons, I've added around 15 ton since I've had her to fit under some of the bridges,,,,,,,,, someone said something about this Chris near Twickenham? Sounds great do you know what they're called????, http://www.thefitoutpontoon.co.uk/buying-building-canal-narrowboat-ballast-canal-narrow-widebeam-boat.html
Please don't think I'm having a pop at anyone but I am really surprised by the number of "How do I?" or "What is this?" questions we get on here. Is there somewhere we can go to, web wise, to learn about NB's as there seems to be a lot of us who have gaps in our knowledge??
We're looking to buy a lined sailaway widebeam soon. We want something around 10ft by 55 to 60ft as we need to fit it out with 3 bedrooms. We can't afford a top-of-the-range one, and I was wondering if people here could suggest what would be a good boat builder to contact, offering best value for money. Anyone got any suggestions? (And before anyone asks, yes we do already have a mooring, and yes, it is big enough for a widebeam!) Any helpful advice would be much appreciated :-)

Can anyone recommend a joiner to make a dinette for us. We are moored at Barbridge thanks

The Fit Out Pontoon would be able to give you a quote, call them on 07553960177. Here's an example of their work https://www.facebook.com/thefitoutpontoon/posts/686353778231587
I am looking for a reasonable carpenter/boatfitter to build an L-shaped dinette on my 43ft boat. Any suggestions? I will be moored in Calcutt Marina.
Helen B. replied:
Can recommend Mark Speakman (07553960177), he specialises in dinettes, he's got pictures of recent builds that he's completed that I'm sure he can send you to show the workmanship
Hi all, can anyone please recommend someone reasonable (in the East Midlands area) to put us in a new kitchen and bathroom on the boat? We can't really afford the 'bespoke' boat fitter kind of job. We want it to look decent and be practical. It doesn't need curly bits and shiny knobs.
Helen B. replied:
Yes can recommend someone near Long Eaton, used to work for a large boat builder/fitter, now works independently. If you speak to Mark on 07553960177 he can get you a quote etc
Hi, I've wanted to live aboard a Narrowboat since I was 7 years old. I'm 34 now and I'd really like to make this dream a reality. the trouble is, I'm a complete beginner! I just wondered if anyone can point me in the direction of any good learning resources please?
For instance, information on how often the boat needs to be lifted out for the hull to be blackened and anodes etc. How often the survey needs to be done and licences etc.
Please forgive me if I sound like a real dummy but I am very new to all this but very keen to learn. I just don't know where to start to find all this information. If anyone knows of any good websites, books, magazines etc I'd be really grateful if you could point me in the right direction. Thank you.
