RIP Mr. Keith Stone.
For those of you who new him or had him for class, Mr. Stone passed away 10/28. He was a genuinely nice guy who loved his students.

East Peoria, Ill. — Keith W. Stone, 68, of East Peoria died at 9:20 a.m. Oct. 28, 2011, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria. Born on July 26, 1943, in Peoria to Elmer T. and Grace G. Boyer Stone, he married Karen Schaffenacker on April 8, 1967, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Pekin. She survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Mindy (Bob) Van Nest of East Peoria and a son, Barrett Stone of Peoria. He was preceded in death by his parents. Keith was a speech therapist in Creve Coeur, Homewood Heights, North Pekin and Marquette Heights. He then became a special education teacher at East Peoria Community High School in 1969, retiring from full-time employment as an administrative assistant in 2000. However, he served the district in several part-time positions until 2009. Keith was an instrumental part of establishing the special education co-operative program that still exists today. He was a 1961 graduate of Woodruff High School in Peoria, and received his BS in Education and his Master of Science Degree in Education from Illinois State University, and attended the University of Illinois and Bradley University. Keith was an active member of NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness), serving as an officer with the Tri-County Chapter and on the State of Illinois board. He also served on the Channel 22 Board, and was an active member of the Rotary Club of East Peoria. He enjoyed volunteering at the Festival of Lights in East Peoria. A memorial visitation for Keith will be from 4-6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2011, at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in East Peoria, where a Time of Remembrance will follow the visitation at 6 p.m. Cremation rites will be accorded and inurnment will be at a later date at Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria.
