Need some advice. We have a pontoon with evinrude motor that only had a few hours on it. Got it out of storage and took to the dealership for service in order to keep motor warranty. When we got it back we put straight in the water and the motor sounded like crap, was vibrating and kinda making puttering noises, immediately. We put it in slip and checked all the oil, gas, pumped the lines etc and thought maybe it was where we were just in idle, just back in the water after a few months, whatever. 2 wks later went out on it and motor still sounds like crap and all of our warning lights are coming on, low oil, low water temp, etc, but everything runs fine. So we call and take it back to dealership and they see a nick in the propeller blade (that's been there for a year) and tell us we hit a tree and that a warped blade will throw the motor off. When we tell them the motor sounded like that when we got it from them they of course say no it didn't.. any way they then call us back and say some gear lines have been pulled, probably again from us hitting a tree, and that it would cost $3000 to fix. THEN they called us back again saying some gears had been pulled leaving the teeth behind and that the whole under panel gear system needed changed out and it would cost $6000. Any advice on what we should do?? Anyone know a good honest boat mechanic you would suggest for second opinion????
