Sub sandwich fans especial from the Valley and Burbank have a controversy of who's sub is the best. Not the chains, but the individual family sub shops. In Burbank my all time favorite open for over 65 years is Santoro's on Burbank Blvd with the best meatball and provolone cheese on soft Italian bread and they heap on Italian pickle, onion, and tomato. It is the bomb. Then there are those that swear by Giamela's. on Magnolia which is also good. In the early seventies there was the Union Sub shop by Valley College where you could get a huge rare sliced roast beef sub with heavy avocado, mayo, shredded lettuce tomato and onion that was the best and it was priced under two bucks, if memory serves. Great meals indeed. Any one doing a similar sub like the Union Sub Shop, long gone, please let me know asap. Who remembers the tasty brownies at Valley College in the vending machine by the quad?
