  From an experienced camper: 1. ADVANCE RESERVATIONS are an ABSOLUTE MUST during peak season. Campgrounds can be booked full for months in advance. 2. If the place/date is full, check reservation system daily for 10 days prior - can sometimes snag an opening due to late cancellations. (Got a "prize" hook-up site at Serrano, Big Bear for last weekend that way.) 3. Peak season is weekends Apr-Oct and daily mid-Jun to mid-Sep (except in desert campgrounds where peak is Oct to Apr weekends) 4. Reservations for state, national and Orange County sites: www.reserveamerica.com 5. County/Regional campgrounds not part of reserveamerica system: cms.sbcounty.gov/parks * www.rivcoparks.org * www.reservations.lacounty.gov * www.reservations.sdparks.org * www.venturaparks.org * www.kerncountyparks.org 6.
