This beautiful female cat just showed up in my veranda (close to Hwy 69N and Valley View). Was super hungry and is quite skinny. Can't keep it, already have two female cats that don't like eachother. Where can I take her if we don't find the owner ?

The SPCA can not take in "found" animals. By law they only deal with abuse cases (maybe some surrenders?). The shelter is the one who enforces the by laws in regards to "lost and straying animals". If you bring in a "found" pet to the SPCA, they have to call the shelter to have it picked up. Pet saves legal stand on taking in "found" pets and rehoming them is kinda shaky, as far as I am concerned. They are under no legal obligation to hold the animal and find the owners before action is taken to adopt them or foster them (I am not sure what they up hold as a policy is so I am not making a moral judgement only a legal observation). If the cat is chipped or had it's tags it would be sent home immediately and both the SPCA or shelter would check for chips without a doubt. Best to keep the cat until someone claims it from you, if you can at all.

Some people have told me that Pet Save will take a cat.
Beth S. replied:
If any cat is taken in by Pet Save it remains there or in foster care until a) the owner contacts them or b) the cat is adopted. They have a strict "no kill" policy and there is nothing legally "shaky" about that. However, cats taken to the pound, stand a very good chance of being euthanized as they do kill cats. You can review the numbers in their annual report. I would contact Pet Save and give kitty a chance at least.
