Anyone know of classes or groups that get together to practice & teach trail survival?
Had offered the idea to a local bike repair shop, but Joe is rather busy this time of season. Would be great if FWRT could get courses together to teach trail riders various techniques, practice sessions, and groups to help get hands-on experience.
Some may know a lot of the basics to semi-advanced techniques to avoid obstacles & uneven surfaces, or some may think they know. if we could provide safety courses, for a nominal fee even, it could help promote the WRT and get y'all more noticed & promote the trail & group.
Maneuvering through various ground surfaces, braking uphill/downhill, obstacle avoidance, hopping obstacles, obstacle course, varied surfaces (sand, gravel, chip rock, loose gravel, trail repair rock). That thin grey gravel at the start of the trail got the best of me in various ways.
Basic bicycle maintenance which is something I seen a few didn't know after getting their bikes off the trailers. Some had issues with their brake cables and could of set themselves up for a bad situation. So maybe even have cards printed out to carry for a basic checklist could be beneficial.
Then there is the other survival basics of water filtering, snakes, livestock issues, first aid, sun screen (even for those with minimal hair - the sun's rays sneak through the slits in the helmets), hydration, water filtration, packing, gels & bars, energy vs. electrolyte drinks, flat repair, etc.
