About us
Joke ‘t Hooft is a qualified and highly experienced teacher, who specialises in teaching the language and culture of the Netherlands to non-Dutch speakers. Her students include diplomats, expatriate staff and their families, university staff and PhD students from around the world. Joke’s approach to teaching is highly practical and often geared to the professional requirements of her students.
Why learning Dutch when almost all the Dutch speak English? Because it enriches your stay as an expatriate in the Netherlands tremendously and allows you to much better understand your colleagues and neighbours and to communicate with them.
Learning Dutch from Joke can be arranged on a individual bases or in small groups. After a few lessons you will surely agree: Dutch is fun!
Joke ‘t Hooft has more than 20 years experience of teaching the language and culture of the Netherlands to non-Dutch speakers including 10 years at the Japanese School of Amsterdam where she taught Dutch to Japanese children. She has been a teacher for an international organization in The Hague area (Wassenaar) and for the International Centre of Leiden.
Some 12 years ago Joke started her own teaching practice, specializing in teaching adult expatriates of all nationalities and sometimes their children too.
Joke has developed her own style of teaching, focused on the practical, every day use of the Dutch language. She designs and develops her lessons on a personal, tailor-made basis aimed at meeting the individual requirements of her students. What is learned during the lessons should be practical and useful in the daily live of the students. However, the overall framework of the lessons is based on proven, successful language training methodologies and includes books, audio CD and CD-rom for various NT2 levels (NT2 = Nederlands als Tweede Taal).
