About us

Let me introduce our Pond Champs Team. Jeremy Grubaugh, is our Aquatics Manager. Jeremy is licensed in Category 5 (Aquatics) in Indiana and Category 3A (Aquatics-General) in Ohio. He is in his 12th year of pond and lake management. He has a Bachelors Degree from Purdue University in Agriculture Education with a Biology Minor and has six years of teaching experience as well. He has a trained and experienced group of Registered Technicians that treat and maintain our customer’s pond and lakes. He is also backed by experienced chemical specialists that understand and develop materials for pond and lake care. These two groups combine to bring you unparalleled excellence in pond and lake care and keep Pond Champs at the forefront of pond management technology.
We use equipment specifically designed to treat your pond or lake efficiently. Whether it is by a sprayer in a boat or an ATV mounted sprayer, we will always use our equipment responsibly and with consideration for your property.
Our philosophy is to integrate a three phase program in order to achieve maximum results with an environmentally balanced efficiency. We integrate mechanical control and prevention (the use of fountains, aerators and pond dyes), biological control and prevention (grass carp, nutrient reducing bacteria, bio-stimulants), and, finally, chemical control (copper products, algaecides, herbicides). By utilizing these three branches, we are able to maintain an aesthetically pleasing pond environment, which, in turn, allows you to enjoy the beauty of nature and, ultimately, increases the value of the property bordering your pond or lake.
We begin your program by measuring your pond via satellite imagery. We than calculate a quote based on the size of your pond. Each quote contains three programs to choose from. Silver is our basic algae control plan, Silver Plus is our algae and weed control plan and Gold is our complete pond care plan. The quote list detailed information for each plan. ... show more
The quote also list additional services Pond Champs offers, like our Summer Weekly plan, which adds additional algae treatments from June through August. We also offer fountain installation, removal, cleaning and storage. New this year, we offer Muck Doctor which is an aggressive much reducer for beach, dock and shoreline areas.
We achieve excellent results without danger to the aquatic environment, which include the fish, water fowl and frogs. Most of our material allows use of the lake for swimming, irrigation and fishing immediately after treatment. The few restricted materials will always be noted on a red flag posted along the shore of the pond and will be dated with the time and date of treatment.
We have a couple options for our customer friendly payment schedule to make our program as accessible as possible.
Choice 1) We collect 20% of your quote total at the time you accept and return your signed quote. We then split the remaining 80% over two payment periods; 40% due by May 1 and 40% due by August 1.
Choice 2) We offer you the chance to pay the full amount up front and deduct 5% from the total bill.
Now, what can you do to help us maintain your pond or lake? First, make sure to keep fertilizer back at least 15 feet from the pond or lake banks. You may also use special fertilizers lacking any phosphates (the middle number on the analysis should read 0, i.e. 30-0-15) in this 15 foot perimeter around the pond or lake. The phosphates are needed by algae to reproduce, so if we limit this, it will reduce algae blooms over time. Second, always mow the clippings away from the pond or lake. Third, let the grass grow a little taller around the lake. Both of these strategies will show nutrient flow into the pond or lake. Fourth, consider placing riprap (rock) around the perimeter of the pond or lake. The east sides are particularly vulnerable to prevailing westerly winds and these winds can cause erosion on the pond and lake banks. Finally, adding a fountain or aerator can increase air in your beach area and can disrupt the surface of the water, making it harder for algae mats to form. We do offer a fountain/aerator sales or rental programs, so ask about these items when you request your quote.
