About us

Henna (Lawsonia inermis) has been used since antiquity in ceremony, ritual and beautification. The earliest clear evidence of henna use has been found in the hair and nails of ancient Egyptian mummies. Henna is a flowering shrub whose leaves, when ground into a fine powder, are used for topical use on skin and hair. For skin, a paste is then made for application, (there are endless recipes to this paste), I add lemon juice, sugar and essential oils. The terpenes in the essential used boost stain power.
There is a beautiful alchemy in the mixing process where the staining (lawsone) molecules of the plant move out of the leaf, into the paste and eventually into the skin after applied and left to sit for several hours. The henna plant alone will not stain, it relies on this migration of molecules to work its magic. :)
Henna or mehndi is non toxic and fades after one-three weeks depending on the freshness of the paste, the climate, the client's skin condition and their aftercare.
Mehndi is found in many cultures, most naturally in those parts of the world where temperatures are high- the henna plant loves 100+ degree weather! The most popular countries linked with henna are India and Morocco, but you will also find use in: Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Egypt, Nepal, Maldives, Bengal, Somalia, Algeria, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Israel, and Tunisia to name a few!
The application of henna is an intimate experience to mi. I love best when clients are open to free form creative flow~ I have photos of work to share and get a sense of what styles/lines they like, but there are no replicas. I am inspired by every different, living canvas and enjoy the vast designs that come forth by being attuned to them and the sacredness of Spirit! Mehndi is really fantastic!
After the paste has been on for several hours, it is removed by scraping off or softened with oil and removed. Initially, the stain is a bright orange, but darkens over the next couple of days with oxidation to it's peak... show more
color.
Then, like all things in this beautiful cycle of life, the stain fades into non existence....
As for Oshun- i invite you find your own discoveries of Her. :)
