The Barelas Coffee House was founded on February 14, 1978 by brothers James and Michael Gonzales. Soon after the restaurant's opening, they were joined in the business by their sister Benita Villanueva. The Barelas Coffee House was named after the Barelas neighborhood community where it is located. Four generations of their family have resided in the Barelas neighborhood. The Barelas Coffee House would like to thank all of their loyal customers for their many years of loyal patronage.
New to the area. looking for good Mexican food, Burgers, Hot dogs, and yes sushi. Just moved to Albuquerque (Rio Rancho) from Southern California. Going to school to learn the HVAC trade while the wife and kids stayed back with grandma in California. Im looking for good food places to soothe my loneliness. One food i left out was Hawaiian BBQ. Are there any Hawaiian BBQ joins around?

Everyone has a different opinion on New Mexican food in Albuquerque, but the truth is, there are so many that are good, you might have to try a bunch before you have a favorite. My favorite Sushi is Sushi Gen on San Mateo. Not that you asked, but in Rio Rancho, I really like Namaste, Indian/Pakistani food on Deborah Road in a kind of hole in the wall strip mall. I am not familiar with any Hawaiian BBQ in ABQ. On the topic of food in general, try and pick up a copy of the Alibi (free newspaper), they have a weekly food column with reviews of local places, and the website alibi.com has a restaurant guide, Chowtown, with a compilation of reviews from the paper and from locals.
