  My friend & I stayed for 3 nights in Ueno, at Ueno Suntargas Hotel, a short walk from the Keisei metro station & JR Ueno station. You will see streets full of affordable food & shopping like Ameyoko Street. The hotel cost us ¥8600 per night. It is clean, in a safe area, free use of washing machine & dryer, free & strong wifi, free coffee & tea in the lounge. You can refill your drinking water there too if you don't want to drink water straight from the tap. Friendly service. I booked with email: ueno@suntargas.co.jp & didn't have to pay any deposit.
