What doctors or midwives should I contact that are willing to do VBACs? Have you had success with them? Anyone have a VBAC at the Blair Hospital? I also want recommendations for Doulas, please. Lastly, I want to take a Bradley class or Hypnobabies class. Does anyone have recommendations either way? Or anyone take private classes with their Doula that they loved and had success with? I have to make my class selection today. I also very much like the midwives at UNMC.Nicole W. replied:I've had Jenda when she was at UNMC and Heather Ramsey at Midwives Place. Both are wonderful midwives. My doula is no longer available but I had Amber Piller as my back up. She seems absolutely wonderful! I attended a doula speed dating session that was very helpful in helping pick a doula that fit my needs. I think the Omaha Doulas Association could help direct you with finding one of these if you're interested. Good luck!

Kristen T. replied:Jennifer Pajor-Smith Lindsey Ann Crick Taylor Groff Gardnerare a few of the up and coming doulas in town who I think have fantastic skills and would be available at a somewhat discounted price Amber Piller Doula Jessie Kelly Langfeldt and Brenda Lewis are also great doulas as are Kristi Livingston Wilson AJ Cecil-Starlin Kate Sorensen and Dusti Bosworth but the last four are pregnant or have new babies so might not be available You can also look at omahadoulas.com as I know I am absolutely forgetting some awesome gals

As others have said, I recommend setting up an interview with at least 3 doulas. The ODA website www.omahadoulas.com has a listing of all of our members that are currently taking clients.

Both require full attention and doulas are usually very physically supportive of their clients which makes holding a camera difficult. ;) The price range also can vary from $400 (newer, less experienced) to over $1000 (for very experienced veterans). Knowing what you want and going forward confidently will help you figure out which provider is right for you. Although Methodist is a popular choice, there are other birth places in the area that may be even more supportive of your wishes. I've supported births at every hospital and the birth center; the procedures that you cannot decline and the freedom you actually have varies GREATLY. Congratulations on your pregnancy! Lots of luck as you pursue your best birth!

I recommend interviewing the midwives at UNMC, Dr. Finley at Bellevue Med Center and Heather and her new partner at The Midwife's Place. Don't choose a provider or birth place based on their location, but rather how supportive they will be of your wishes. I also very strongly recommend a doula. No matter how wonderful your husband is or how fantastic your provider is a doula will be an investment you will not regret. As with providers, interview several doulas to find the right fit for you.
