I would never pay anyone up front for doing a job but because they recommended them, I had zero reason to distrust Kip Backlund, the owner. He did part of the job and then had excuse after excuse why he couldn't start the deck and underpinning which as I said, already paid him for (materials and labor). He would say he was going to do the job but never show up, never call. Months went by and he finally stopped responding to me so had no choice but to consult an attorney because he will not return the balance due of $28,000. Yes, $28,000. Maybe it was stupid to pay up front but when a business recommends someone personally know to them, I felt confident I wouldn't get scammed.

Unfortunately Kip took a $1,200 deposit for a job and never completed the project. He confirmed he would give our deposit back 3 months ago and now has no longer responded to my husband or I. We have filed a claim in small claims court, and want to make sure no other family goes through this as we have.
