Settled in 1780, the Town was formally established in 1788. The Town of Poughkeepsie borders the City of Poughkeepsie and is on the western side of Dutchess County.
Our Town has roughly 45,000 residents and thriving restaurants, businesses and cultural attractions. From our fine cuisine to our museums to our softball team.
The Town of Poughkeepsie is home to Vassar College, one of the nation's finest liberal arts colleges. Vassar's Lehman Loeb Art Center, the oldest college art museum in the United States, houses over 18,000 works of art and is free to the public. Our Town is also home to Marist College and Dutchess Community College.
