On the waterfront every Sunday in idyllic Port Douglas is the Port Douglas market. Wandering around under the palm trees, you'll discover 150 stalls featuring fabulous local arts, hand-made crafts and functional wares, fresh produce ... And more.
Treat yourself to a massage or some reflexology, sit for a tarot or psychic reading or experience a range of alternative natural therapies. Enjoy fresh squeezed tropical fruit juices to accompany a home baked quiche and then snack on exotic sweet chilli coconut in the shell. Set yourself up with a new wardrobe of designer clothing, have your hair braided or take home a new spray-on tattoo. There's pretty much something for everybody at the market.
The Port Douglas market has one of the most diverse stallholder communities of any market in Australia. Visited by locals and visitors alike, the market is a regular "must do" for people from all over the world. It's a great day to find a few treasures in our paradise which we call home ... And hang out with the locals.
Once you're 'done' exploring the market, adjacent Port Douglas village beckons with a plethora of fine restaurants and boutique shopping. And, if that's all a bit much for a Sunday arvo ... keep on walking a short distance and laze about on 4 mile Beach until the sun goes down.
The market runs every Sunday right through the year. Most stalls are ready to trade by about 7:30 AM and operate until around mid-afternoon. Entrance is free. See you at the market ...
Does anyone have a contact number for the family that does the fruit & veg stall at the sunday markets? The one near the bead girl - and do you know if as well as being local, is the produce organic as well? Thanks!
