We moved into our 1850's house early last spring and our old radiators with steam heat does not seem to be working. Two of our radiators do not give off any heat (nor get hot) and it takes hours for the temperature to go up 3 degrees. Our boiler always seems to be running all the time. Does anyone know of a steam heating expert?

I need recommendations for a competent but affordable electrician. Apparently my almost new water heater keeps throwing the circuit breaker. Hubs thinks the breaker needs to be replaced. Help! Hot water is really, really, really important to me.
Danelle R. replied:
Ours kept tripping the circuit breaker. We are renting, so a plumber came through the landlord. An element was burned out, but more importantly, our unit was FULL of chunks of calcium (it took him forever to get them all out, they won't drain through t he spigot) and what not from the hard water in Jeff City. We do not have a water softener but it would help this problem. Maybe yours is similar. You'll probably need a plumber, not an electrician. It didn't look like too hard a fix, just time consuming. If it's a new water heater, check the warranty. Maybe someone will come fix it on warranty. You could try replacing the element yourself, but it might void the warranty, too. http://www.familyhandyman.com/.../diy-hot-water.../view-all

Theres a mommy there that keeps flooding her house doing laundry, and is an amazing person that deserves a whole lot better than the hand shes been dealt... Water heater has water all around it. Probably not a good thing. Anyone know a good plumber in Vegas, or is this easy to replace yourself?
Stephen D. replied:
Not done it myself, but from what little I know (mostly from familyhandyman.com) it is a project you can do. Turn off breaker, drain, unhook, remove. The biggest challenge may be where it currently exists-if it is easy to get to. Of course, this is assuming you need to replace (and not simply repair) your current one.
