Small Business Can Thrive: We need co-ordinated marketing...
The realities of the area (Leeds and Thousand Islands) were put forth in a study that was done by the Economic Development Committee. The study looked at this township as well as the surrounding townships. The reality was that with no serviced industrial or commercial land that the focus for the township should be on small business/ home based business growth and improved tourism activities and businesses.
One of the key components is to co-ordinate the efforts of all the small businesses in the area and build something that markets them. The current EDC has lobbied for an Economic Development officer who can co-ordinate with Gananoque and co-ordinate the businesses in the township to create this entity. We already have the “anchor” attractions to build this plan with. Gananoque is already doing quite a bit of this and constantly trying new events to attract and keep visitors in town.
If we want a great example of what is possible, we only need to look to Prince Edward County’s dedicated tourism site.
