Good Morning! I have a mare that has a habit of pawing and in the process is taking slices/chunks off of her heel bulb area. She did this, again, a few weeks ago. In the past my Vet (deceased) had me soak the foot in epsom salt and warm water, furasan, and wrap it. The skin flap would dry up and fall off. There was one instance where he did have to remove a small one but it healed up fine. She did it again a few weeks ago but the chunk will not dry up. I have tried everything to no avail. I do have the Vet coming tomorrow to evaluate and treat, along with yearly shots and teeth float. I do need to say that this mare has NEVER taken a lame step with these boo boo's. Sadly I can never show her due to residual scarring. It is not permitted in the TWH show ring.
My question to all of you is . . is there any products on the market that helps dry up injuries of this nature? I have tried BlueCoat, Granulex, Veterycin, and everything I can think of. I also have her in bell boots 24/7 per the recommendation of my prior Vet. I am at wits end with the "moose" girl. She is huge but a big baby. I love her dearly but I fear if this continues . . .well no foot no horse :( Does anyone have any suggestions?
