I brought my (very) old African Grey in a few days ago because I thought she might have an ear infection. I noted that she was in her late 50's and has very bad arthritis over the phone before the checkup, and during the appointment before leaving my bird with them for a few hours to look over. I was called by the center as I was waiting in the parking lot (3 hour wait) and was asked if I wanted to have her nails cut. I stated that I have never cut her nails and the individual on the phone stated that they suggest they get them cut and it will be another $xx... I said ok if you think she needs them cut go ahead. Now, my poor bird can't hold herself up and is falling off her perch constantly. She now has a black eye because she is so prone to falling and loosing her balance because of her arthritis and lack of nails to help her grip. How I didn't think of this during the upsell call makes me very mad at myself. (I was more worried at the time for the initial reason for her visit.) However, these people are supposed to be professionals and this seems like a no brainer and something they should have dealt with before. I now have to keep my poor bird in a small cage in hopes her nails grow back soon because she has such a hard time keeping herself upright without her nails. Please note: They were very professional, nice and the establishment was very clean. BUT, I left with a FAR bigger problem with my birds health than the original reason for the visit. My bird now has a black eye/missing many feathers/can't stand up/is stuck in a small cage. I have no choice but to leave this review and warn others so this does not happen to their bird.
